The project comprises a fit-out of this 1,225sqm Soho location into a gallery and production studio for a client. A small refined ‘white cube’ gallery at ground floor acts as the studio entrance, whilst first to third floors provide the main studio accommodation comprised of a dramatic double height volume overlooked by mezzanine painting areas and a glass meeting room. With a pared back palette and purely functional in appearance, the spaces allow for the process of art production to take centre stage incorporating mechanically opening floor hatches and hoisting gear for large scale artworks to be lifted to any one of the studio floors. A section of walk-on glass floor provides a visual connection between floors and a sophisticated lighting scheme provides the artist with perfect dimmable and tunable working light conditions. Of a more domestic scale and palette the fourth floor has enhanced natural finishes.
