East Churchfield Road

Arch: Westgreen Studio

Westgreen have successfully achieved planning consent to develop this brownfield site. Situated between the rear of Acton Central Station and Acton Park, is accessed from East Churchfield Road.

The project consists of 18 high quality apartments that will be designed to surpass current building regulation standards. A mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are planned, each with outside amenity space and oriented to optimise the site’s privileged position overlooking Acton Park.

Externally the materials have been carefully selected to compliment the character of Acton Park Conservation Area. A restricted palette of yellow stock brick, green tile (in reference to the green bark of London Planes trees in the adjacent Acton Park) and metal framed windows forms the elevation. The natural vertical rhythms have been balanced with subtle horizontal patterns formed by the glass balustrades.

This sensitive approach in selecting these elements has been echoed by the siting and scale of the building when gauged against the adjacent station house and local vernacular. Careful consideration of design details such as the extruded brickwork assists in breaking up the overall mass of the façade and offers an unimposing development.
